In January, 2010, Seaside Symphony Orchestra performed at the popular Music by the Sea Festival in Sandgate. They performed several works by local composers to a very appreciative audience. The concert exhibited local talent both in composition and in performance.

Andre Reginato wrote and performed his guitar concerto, Sarah Hopkins wrote and also performed "Honour the Earth as your Mother". Tom Millar composed the choral work "The Spirit of the Wind" with the newly formed Festival Choir, conducted by Jenni Lake. Other local compositions included works by Timo Jarvela and John Gibbs.

About Us - Seaside Symphony Orchestra

SSO is a Sandgate based Orchestra that performs in local festivals and events around the Sandgate district. The aim of the orchestra was to enable musicians of all ages to have a local orchestra in the Sandgate area conducted by a professional conductor. Bronwyn Gibbs has been the Musical Director of the SSO since 2003.

SSO performs regularly at events such as Music By The Sea, Bluewater and Einbunpin Festivals. SSO premiered "Moreton Bay Suite" by a local composer, Tom Millar in 2002. The Orchestra performed at the official opening of the new Sandgate Community Centre in 2004 in the presence of the Governor of Qld, Quentin Bryce. SSO performed with 11 year old violinist, Nicholas Kaye-Smith at the Music By The Sea concert in November 2004, and again when he was 15 in 2008.
SSO rehearses every Tuesday night from 7pm until 9.30pm at the Eventide Nursing Home Auditorium, Beaconsfield Terrace, Brighton. The orchestra has no audition process, however a Grade 3 or 4 instrument standard is advised in regard to the level of difficulty of the music the orchestra performs.
